Grand-Am Road Racing competed at iconic Road Atlanta for the first time ever on April 20, 2013. The Forgeline trackside support team was once again on hand to provide support to the large number of Grand-Am teams that rely on the strength and durability of Forgeline wheels for their professional racing endeavors. And once again, Forgeline teams tasted more success in virtually every class, including Rolex GT, Rolex GX, and CTSCC GS.
The success started in Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge GS, where the #9 Stevenson Motorsports Camaro took the checkered flag on Forgeline GA3R racing wheels. Sharing the podium with them was the second place #38 Porsche from 2012 Driver champions, BGB Motorsports. All in all, Forgeline teams claimed 5 of the top 10 spots in CTSCC GS, including the #61 Roush Performance Mustang in 6th, the #01 CKS Autosport Camaro in 7th, and the #83 BGB Motorsports Porsche in 9th.
The podium success continued in the still-developing new-for-2013 Rolex GX class, where the #38 BGB Motorsports Porsche Cayman earned a second place finish on GA3R wheels. Their success at Road Atlanta ensures that they continue to lead the season championship points contest, despite pressure from the factory Mazda cars.
And in the premier Rolex GT race, Park Place Motorsports claimed second place, after a hard-fought battle in their #73 Porsche on GA3R wheels. Patrick Long drove an amazing race and had the fastest car at the end, passing a Ferrari for second place with just three laps to go. (They are certain to win a race yet this year.) Including the race-winning #73 Porsche, Forgeline teams claimed 3 of the top 10 spots in GT, including the the #94 Turner Motorsport BMW in 7th place and the #71 Park Place Motorsports Porsche in 10th.
We are very proud of the efforts displayed by all of the Forgeline teams at Road Atlanta, and we thank them for trusting Forgeline to carry the load!
The Grand-Am Rolex series teams return to action at Detroit’s Belle Isle Park on April 31-May 1, while both Rolex and CTSCC will be at our home track, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, on June 13-15.
